The Luxuries of Free Time

How we revel in the luxuries offered by just a bit of free time. We take long bubble baths and read books. We find hobbies and thereby we find ourselves. We take long walks and we take vacations that take our breath away. The need for free time is often outweighed by the need to become more financially sound, but we can often squeak out a few extra private moments for ourselves. Free time allows us to be settled and centered and in touch with our own needs and wants. This is what luxuries await us.Unfortunately, not everyone has the spare moments available for personal pampering. Instead their lives are filled with children and their never ending needs, bosses that don’t adhere to the laws of break time and lunch requirements, and the chronic battle against the dirt that covers the house despite the chronic attempts to clean it. Free time, especially for struggling single parents, can be a daydream at best. The luxuries associated with free time actually help make us better people and make us more driven people. Without it we are tired and often cranky. The twenty minute nap that a little free time allows is like a little brush with heaven and the stolen quiet moments when we find ourselves alone and happy are like water to a dying plant. No matter who you are or how busy you are, you can do more if you recognize that you, as well, benefit from the luxuries that making space for free time allows.
